Installation of Shield and Microphone Assembly
Remove shield from bottom compartment of styrofoam case. Loosen transparent nut slightly. Place shield on a flat surface with neck up and carefully insert V tube. Some pressure will be required. Allow neck to come to a rest against black handle. Tighten nut until shield is secured. Insert microphone assembly until it 'clicks' in flush with the V tube. This will complete the assembly of the microphone. To check alignment at any time, view across the outer edges of the parabola, the wire mesh at the head of the microphone should just break your line of vision.

Battery Installation
Open battery door compartment. Hold the handle up side down and insert the first battery with the contacts facing down, large contact (negative pole) towards the back of the handle. As the door is closed, contacts on the door will unite with the second battery. Tighten screw, but do not over tighten. When batteries are exhausted distortion will occur at high sound levels and batteries will need to be replaced. Always use batteries of similar type.

Microphone Cable
The microphone cable is six feet long, and is primarily designed to be used with portable recorders. If a longer cable is necessary, an extension cable up to two hundred feet may be used without effecting sound quality or performance. It is only necessary to use a two conductor cable with a ground for this purpose.

Electronic Noise
Electronic noise is picked up in two ways, magnetic and electrostatic. Both can be eliminated by keeping away from the sources; electronic machines and fluorescent lights.

V-M Switch
For maximum sound quality, especially for voice and music, the switch should be placed on the 'V' position. The 'M' position is a low frequency roll-off. This position is preferred anytime the subject does not produce these low frequencies. The handling noise is minimized in this position. Try both positions if you are not sure. The switch is flush with the surface to prevent accidental use while recording.

Microphone Cable Connectors (All Models)
We do not supply connectors with the EPM because there are over 30 different types in common use today. For the plugs you require consult your EPM dealer or the nearest electronic parts outlet. There are two basic types of connectors; unbalanced to ground and balanced to ground, depending on the equipment with which the microphone is used. Usually for a home recording device, use the unbalanced configuration. If you require advice regarding plug connection, consult your EPM dealer or your tape recorder dealer.
